Nigeria players Victor Boniface and Gift Orban were on target but Bayer Leverkusen carried the day as they defeated Hoffeinheim 3-1 in a Bundesliga fixture at BayArena on Sunday.

Boniface opened the scoring for the defending champions in the 15th minute before Jeremie Frimpong doubled their lead in the 19th minute for a 2-0 lead at the half-time break.

The second half started with Boniface missing an open sitter but Patrik Schick made amends to make it 3-0 for Leverkusen in the 51st minute.

The away side threatened a comeback when another Super Eagles player Orban scored in the 62nd minute and this came after Leverkusen had been reduced to 10 men following the sending off of Alejandro Grimaldo in the 60th minute.

However, Leverkusen held on to pick their 13th victory of the campaign and stay second on the table with 45 points while Bayern Munich are top with 51 points.

Boniface, who was being linked with a transfer move to Saudi Arabia, has so far feature in 11 Bundesliga matches, scored seven goals and provided one assist. Meanwhile, Orban, has featured in four matches and scored two goals.
