Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek has praised Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen as among the best strikers to have played for the Turkish Super Lig outfit.
The 27-year-old is currently playing for Turkish outfit Galatasaray after he signed a permanent deal from Serie A outfit Napoli. While rating the Super Eagle, Özbek said he was the most exciting forward at the club since legendary icon Metin Oktay.
“After Metin Oktay, Victor Osimhen is the striker that excites me most among all strikers that have played in Galatasaray,” Özbek said.
“We admire Osimhen even when we watch him in training. He performs as if he is in a match even there. We are afraid he might get injured,” he added.
Meanwhile, former Nigeria coach and captain Sunday Oliseh has heaped praise on Osimhen and teammate Ademola Lookman of Atletico Madrid following their Champions League performances that helped their sides to reach the knockout stages.
“We have two top Nigerian players now doing well in the Champions League. We have Osimhen doing well in the Champions League and we have Lookman doing exceptionally well too,” Oliseh said on the podcast.
“So, these two top players are doing well. All we need now is for these two top players to lead the team and for the others to follow and you will have it.”
Oliseh added: “For the Super Eagles to get better, our players need to be doing well in the Champions League. That is the highest level.
“Then you get more publicity, more money coming in, more transfers, and people become more interested in your country. That is the holy grail of club football.”
Osimhen is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world. He finished in eighth place at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony, becoming the first Nigerian to make the top ten of the French award.
He was named the African Footballer of the Year at the 2023 CAF Awards, the first Nigerian to receive this honour since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.
