The Nigerian Super Eagles have ramped up preparations for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon, but the squad remains incomplete with three high-profile players yet to join the camp in Rabat.
Amidst intensive training sessions, Head Coach Eric Chelle and his technical staff are awaiting the arrival of star striker Victor Osimhen, goalkeeping returnee Maduka Okoye, and USA-based midfielder Alhassan Yusuf.
The team, which opened camp on Sunday and held its first full training on Monday, currently boasts 21 players on the ground. The lingering absences, particularly that of the talismanic Osimhen, cast a slight shadow over the final days of preparation ahead of Thursday evening’s playoff clash.
Maduka Okoye’s anticipated arrival marks his return to the national fold after serving a two-month suspension related to a betting offence.
The 21 players currently participating in training are:
Goalkeepers: Amas Obasogie, Stanley Nwabali
Defenders: Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong, Benjamin Frederick, Chidozie Awaziem, Semi Ajayi, Zaidu Sanusi, Bruno Onyemaechi
Midfielders: Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka
Forwards/Wingers: Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, Olakunle Olusegun, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke, Bright Osayi-Samuel
The remaining trio is expected to link up with the squad before the critical fixture against Gabon as the Super Eagles look to secure a vital win on the road to the 2026 World Cup.
