Gabon international Mario Lemina has admitted he has never played with any top player like Victor Osimhen of Nigeria.
Lemina and Osimhen are both playing for Turkish giants Galatasaray. While Lemina rejoined Galatasaray for a transfer fee of €2.5m from Wolves in 2025, Osimhen left Serie A outfit Napoli to pen a permanent transfer.
However, the two players have been key for Galatasaray and their combination proved vital as Osimhen set up Lemina to score the only important goal against Liverpool in the Champions League.
“I’ve played with forwards like Aubameyang, Higuain, Gignac, Falcao, but there’s no one like Victor Osimhen. He’s one of a kind,” Lemina said in a conversation with Djibril Drame as quoted by Complete Sports.
“Even if he doesn’t score, he’s constantly contributing, constantly a threat. Always pressing. He defends with us. On top of that, he’s a complete finisher.”
Lemina added: “I’ve never seen such a hungry forward. He hates losing, and when we lose, he won’t talk to you. The next day, he puts on his headphones and doesn’t talk to anyone. But these are good habits. It’s a fantastic thing.”
Discussing the victory against Liverpool, Lemina said as quoted by Tribuna.com: “I am grateful to my teammates and all our fans. We wanted to win through hard work, just like in the first match (in the league stage – ed.). And we succeeded. We have another match ahead of us – at Anfield. We also want to win there and advance to the quarterfinals,” said Lemina.
“This is my second spell at Galatasaray. Leaving was painful. I am very happy to be back here and living my dream. We are performing well in all competitions, and I want this to continue.”
Galatasaray will first face İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. in a league fixture on Saturday before proceeding to Anfield to face Liverpool in the return leg.
