Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has revealed his desire to return and play for Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Championship.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder joined Dunfermline under manager Neil Lennon on a short-term deal after parting ways with Major League Soccer side CF Montréal in January.
“Hopefully. Hopefully we will see, because I had a good short stay here, and it would be nice to be back and continue the adventure,” he said. “I’d like to leave some sort of legacy—possibly by helping Dunfermline reach a higher league.”
On his time with the Scottish Championship side, Wanyama said: “My time here has gone really well. Everybody—from the staff to the players—welcomed me warmly. It’s really friendly, like a family here, and I’m happy to be part of it.
“I knew they were in the Championship, but with the club’s status and history, they don’t belong here. This is a club with tradition, and I understood how important it is to help return it to where it belongs.”
On why he ended up joining the team, Wanyama said: “When I got the call, I spoke to the gaffer and the owner. It was good to hear their ideas and where they see the club going. I couldn’t turn it down. I met James Bord and we had a chat. He’s a real football guy—very passionate. What he shared with me aligned with what I was looking for.”
He further talked about Lennon, whom he worked with previously at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership: “He’s someone I respect deeply. He’s done a lot for me and took my career to another level. I’ve always appreciated that. I know how he works and he’s been very influential in my career.
“He asked me to come in, be a leader in the dressing room, help the team, and support the young players. I couldn’t resist. I’m still passionate about winning and watching young players develop. Seeing the club move forward gives me real motivation.”
