ES Zarzis remain surprise leaders in Tunisia’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle but reigning champions Espérance closed the gap on Thursday with a routine 2-0 victory over AS Soliman.
EST’s dynamic attackers put the Blood and Gold ahead just before halftime when Yan Sasse headed in a corner kick service from Youcef Belaïli. AS Soliman created a couple of shooting opportunities over the course of the match but failed to capitalize before Mohamed Amine Tougai headed home another perfectly delivered corner kick from Belaïli.
Despite a 1-1 draw on Thursday against US Ben Guerdane, ES Zarzis remain the leaders by a point over Club Africain. The result ended a perfect start to the campaign that saw ESZ overcome CS Sfaxien and CA.
In Sousse, Etoile du Sahel’s contingent of rising talents dispatched AS Gabès by a 3-0 score. Mohamed Anane’s first half penalty put ESS ahead before Raki Aouani and Mokhles Chouchane put the hosts beyond reach. Like ESS, CS Sfaxien also earned their first victory of the young season with a 2-0 result over JS Omrane.
A two-week break in league play begins for the upcoming international break. Action will resume on September 11.
