English Premier League outfit Aston Villa has reportedly entered the race to sign Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika from Belgian giants Club Brugge.
According to transfer specialist Sacha Tavolieri, Villa’s interest was triggered by a serious injury to Boubacar Kamara, which has left Unai Emery’s side in urgent need of a robust defensive presence in the midfield engine room.
Despite Villa’s late entry, Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray are still considered the frontrunners for the 24-year-old’s signature. Reports suggest the “Yellow and Reds” have already made significant headway, allegedly agreeing on personal terms with the Nigeria international.
Galatasaray is rumoured to have offered Onyedika a four-and-a-half-year contract, with Club Brugge reportedly open to lowering their initial asking price to facilitate the move this January.
Onyedika’s stock has risen significantly following a stellar campaign with the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The defensive midfielder proved his versatility and eye for goal during Nigeria’s final Group C clash against Uganda, where he netted a decisive second-half brace. His dominant performance earned him the Man of the Match award and a place in the tournament’s “Best XI” for the group stages, helping Nigeria secure a perfect record on their way to the knockout rounds.
With the January window reaching its final week, all eyes are on whether the allure of the Premier League or the project at Galatasaray will win out for the Club Brugge powerhouse.
