Vipers Sports Club capped off a stellar season by securing their fourth Stanbic Uganda Cup title with a commanding 2-0 victory over archrivals Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) at the newly unveiled FUFA Stadium, Kadiba in Rubaga, Kampala.

On a day that marked the official opening of one of the country’s newest football facilities, the Venoms delivered a statement performance to seal their second domestic double winning both the league and the FA Cup in the same season, a feat they last achieved in 2022-2023.

The match started with intensity as defender Livingstone Mulondo opened the scoring in just the 5th minute. He headed home from a well-taken Allan Okello corner kick, capitalizing on Vipers’ first real chance, despite KCCA’s early dominance in possession.

KCCA nearly found a response through Emmanuel Anyama in the 39th minute, but his effort went wide from close range. Tempers flared as physical challenges led to yellow cards for KCCA’s James Mubezi, and Vipers duo Milton Karisa and Derrick Ndahiiro.

At the start of the second half, KCCA brought on Joel Sserunjogi for Musitafa Mujjuzi in search of midfield control. However, Vipers extended their lead in the 55th minute when Yunus Junior Sentamu volleyed in after a defensive error by KCCA’s Peter Magambo.

KCCA responded with a double substitution, introducing Derrick Nsibambi and Julius Poloto. Poloto became a central figure in set pieces as KCCA pressed for a goal, but the Vipers defense held firm. Vipers’ Abdul-Karim Watambala came close to sealing the result with a thunderous 35-yard strike that narrowly missed.

More substitutions followed as both sides sought tactical adjustments. KCCA’s Arafat Usama, who impressed throughout the game, was replaced by Etienne Katenga, while Umar Lutalo was introduced for Ashraf Mugume. Lutalo had a shot off target shortly after coming on.

In the closing stages, Vipers brought on Moses Waiswa for a subdued Allan Okello and later subbed in Congolese striker Gusto Mulongo for Sentamu. Mulongo immediately tested the goalkeeper with a long-range effort from 40 yards.

Right back Nicholas Wadada added flair to the final minutes, drawing cheers with a clever wall pass before being fouled. He was replaced by Grant Matisko in stoppage time, just before referee Shamirah Nabadda blew the final whistle.
