Seven-time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have confirmed the appointment of Belgian tactician Ivan Jacky Minnaert as their new permanent head coach.

Minnaert arrives at Kitende with a wealth of experience across Africa and Europe and takes over the reins from the interim duo of John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza, who guided the Venoms to a domestic double in the 2024/25 season. Both Ayala and Muhumuza will stay on as assistant coaches in the new technical setup.

The 52-year-old Belgian tactician joins Vipers from Liberian Premier League side Fassell Football Club, where he masterminded a league title triumph last season. He also previously led Libyan giants Al-Ittihad Tripoli to the championship during the 2020/21 campaign.

Minnaert’s coaching journey has taken him to various clubs across the continent and beyond. He has held managerial roles at Spain’s Union Estepona CF and CD San Roque, Mali’s Djoliba AC, Kenya’s AFC Leopards, and Rwanda’s Rayon Sports FC, where he had two separate stints.

The Belgian has also handled teams in Guinea (AS Kaloum Star), South Africa (Black Leopards FC), and Rwanda’s Mukura Victory FC, giving him extensive experience with African football culture and competitions.

His arrival at Vipers comes as the club continues to strengthen ahead of the new season, having already secured the services of Enock Ssebaggala, Mark Yallah, and Nigerian winger Odili Chukwuma.
