Ugandan Premier League champions Vipers SC have officially parted ways with left back Richard Matovu following the expiration of his contract.
Matovu joined the Venoms in July 2023 on a two-year deal from Arua Hill SC but found playing time hard to come by, especially in his final season where he only featured in five league matches.
Despite limited appearances, Matovu bows out as a double winner having been part of the squad that clinched both the Uganda Premier League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup during his stay at Kitende.
His departure now leaves head coach Ivan Minnaert who was announced recently as the club’s new head coach with two recognized left-back options: Derrick Ndahiro and promising youngster Enock Luyima.
Before his stint with Vipers, the hardworking full-back had previously turned out for Kyetume FC and BUL FC, showcasing his consistency and work ethic across several clubs.
Vipers SC have been active in the ongoing transfer window, securing the services of midfielder Enock Ssebagala, Liberian forward Mark Yallah, Nigerian winger Odili Chukwuma, and Congolese defender Kevin Dasy Dasylva as they bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.
