Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira has revealed how his team has been forced to adjust their style of play to accommodate Nigeria forward Tolu Arokodare.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Premier League club on a four-year contract with the option of a further one year, from Belgian Pro League side Genk, was handed his debut as Wolves suffered a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Discussing the performance of Arokodare, who started in the game but was later withdrawn, coach Pereira said: “We spent the last two weeks working with eight players. It’s better to start with the players that stayed with me for a few days and try to prepare with eight for the match against Newcastle.
“After, we need a striker. We had one training session with Tolu. He’s a different player, he’s physically strong, he gives us the possibility to play long ball and to hold this ball and to give time for us to appear. He did well, of course he is not in the physical condition to do better.”
Arokodare, who is the winner of the 2025 Ebony Shoe, awarded to the best African player in Belgium, will hope to score his first goal when Wolves return to action against Leeds United at Molineux Stadium on Saturday.
