WAFCON 2024: Ghana coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren shares plans after claiming bronze medal

Head coach of Ghana’s senior female team, Kim Lars Bjorkegren has reacted to the team’s third place finish at the just ended Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) in Morocco.

The Black Queens defeated South Africa by 4-2 in the penalty shootouts after the game finished 1-1 at full time. Ghana repeated the history of the 2016 edition in Cameroon where they defeated Banyana Banyana by 1-0 to win bronze at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

The Swedish coach spoke to Pan Africa Football after the team’s arrival at the Kotoka International Airport on Monday, July 28.

“We saw that we had the potential to beat all the teams in this tournament and potentially all the teams are very good.

“Tactically we learned from the first game, we made some small changes and football is really bright in Ghana so we need to keep working harder,” Kim Lars Bjorkegren told Pan Africa Football.

Bjorkegren was asked whether he will introduce new players from the domestic league into the senior team and he admits that it will take time to incorporate some new faces.

“I want to see as many as possible, it takes a little bit of time but we will spend the time and see if there are other potentials that are around.” He added.
