Ghana’s senior women national team will aim to lift the nation’s flag aloft when they target success at the CAF Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Black Queens are currently in the Northern African nation fine tuning ahead of the tournament which kicks off in July. They have played two friendly games – beating Malawi by 3-1 and coming from behind to beat Benin by 4-2.
Notwithstanding a fine start to their preparation ahead of the tournament, head coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren admits that, the team needs to do a lot of work to stand a chance of winning the trophy.
“It will take belief, hard work, a little bit of luck, and a clear game plan. We have to take it one match at a time and stay mentally focused,” the coach CAFOnline.
Ghana has not won the WAFCON in the last two decades, with the team’s best performance in that period coming in 2006 when the Queens reached the final.
Ghana is in Group C alongside defending champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania. The team’s last friendly game is against Nigeria on June 29.
