WAFCON 2026Q: Nigeria camp opens in Togo to begin preparation for Benin clash

Eight players have reportedly arrived the Togo camp of Nigerian women’s senior national team, Super Falcons on Monday as the gear up for their double header 2026 women African Cup of nation qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic.

Six-time Africa Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala, new invitee Joy Omewa, Galatasaray defender Tosin Demehin, China-based forward Folashade Ijamilusi, and defender Miracle Usani were among the early arrivals as the Super Falcons opened their Lomé camp for their 2026 WAFCON qualifiers against the Amazons.

The other early birds in camp are midfielder Taiwo Afolabi, forward Kafayat Mafisere, goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi and defender Blessing Ilivieda.

Head Coach Justine Madugu confirmed that the team will begin training sessions in Lomé on Monday, as they prepare to face the Bénin at the Stade de Kégué on Friday afternoon.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Gambian official Ngum Fatou as referee for Friday’s match, with Mauritanians Mariem Chedad and Hamedine Houleye as assistant referees 1 and 2 respectively, while Gambian Isatou Touray will serve as fourth official.

Halimatou Hamidou from Niger Republic will be the commissioner, while Martha Nyekanyeka from Malawi will be in the role of referee assessor.

Thirteen more players are still being expected in camp, as African player of the year nominees of Esther okoronkwo and captain Rashidat Ajibade among others are yet to step into camp.

The reverse fixture is slated for the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, next Tuesday.
