The Algeria women’s national team pipped Cameroon 1–0 to qualify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Tuesday. The North Africans won 3–1 on aggregate to book their spot in next year’s tournament.
Algeria were sharp in front of goal against Cameroon, one of African women’s football powerhouses. England-based midfielder Marine Dafeur scored the solitary goal of the match in the 25th minute. The Indomitable Lionesses were hoping to overturn their first-leg defeat but failed to break down a resilient Algerian side.
Algeria have confirmed their seventh appearance in WAFCON. They have secured back-to-back qualification only for the second time in their history.
Three-time WAFCON runners-up Cameroon failed to qualify for the tournament for the first time in their history. The national side had played in every WAFCON tournament since the inaugural 1991 edition, where they were finalists.
