WAFCON: Bisseck sacked after Cameroon fails to qualify

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has relieved the country’s women’s national team head coach, Jean-Baptiste Bisseck, of his duties after failing to qualify the Indomitable Lionesses to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) this week.

Cameroon lost 3-1 on aggregate to Algeria, failing to qualify for WAFCON for the second consecutive time. Fans in Yaoundé were calling for the immediate dismissal of Bisseck. The Cameroonian replaced Gabriel Zabo, but his tenure has been marred by unsuccessful outings. His team failed to qualify for the 2024 WAFCON and repeated the same fate for the 2026 edition.

CamFoot reports that Bisseck was dismissed by FECAFOOT due to the team’s abysmal performance in the qualifiers. He led the national side in ten official games, losing six and winning only three. His poor record has been criticized by fans of the Indomitable Lionesses, who are regarded as one of the strongest African women’s football powerhouses.

FECAFOOT is expected to name a successor and begin rebuilding the national side. Cameroon is a three-time WAFCON runner-up.
