The Ghana women’s national team began their journey to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a superlative 3-0 victory over Egypt in the first leg qualifier in Suez.
The Black Queens reconvened for the qualifiers after winning bronze at the 2024 edition held in Morocco, producing a decisive first leg victory on Thursday.
Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren named a strong squad with a blend of youth and experience for the clash, where Doris Boaduwaa fired the Black Queens into the lead with five minutes to end the first half.
Moments later, Susan Duah came close to increasing the tally but her headed effort was denied to keep the score at 1-0 into the half time break.
Two late goals from Mary Amponsah and Grace Asantewaa capped a fine finish for the visitors, completing a 3-0 win ahead of the return encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 28.
The 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations is set to be hosted in Morocco between March 17 and April 3 with sixteen nations battling for honours.
