Head coach of Ghana’s Women team, Kim Lars Bjorkegren has set an audacious ambition of winning the Africa Cup of Nations which comes up this year in Morocco.
The Swedish trainer opened the Black Queens camp with 31 players invited for preparations ahead of the tournament in July. Out of the 31 invited players, 24 are home-based with the training camp set to last for nine days at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Accra.
Bjorkegren said: “For me, to see all the players in Ghana is impossible. When I am here, I maybe have the chance to watch one game at 3pm. But if there are no more games later, I can’t see all the players. So this was a great chance for me to bring many players to get to know them on and off the pitch,” he told 3 Sports.
“For me, it is simple to win the gold medal. You need to take it step by step and I know we are not going to be a favorite for people outside of Ghana. There are some five nations who have a bigger chance to win it. We need to qualify from the group stage. From there its three games and I know we can do it.
Ghana is making a return to the WAFCON for the first time since 2018. The three-time runners up have been drawn in a tricky group which features champions South Africa, Tanzania and Mali.
