WAFCON: “Ghana will adjust its energy against Algeria in quarterfinals” – Badu

Ghana’s senior female team midfielder, Evelyn Badu has shared her thoughts on the team’s progression to the quarter finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Black Queens made a poor start to the campaign – losing the opener by 2-0 to South Africa before settling for a 1-1 draw against fellow West Africans Mali in the second game.

The team however made a strong case in the final Group C match where they pummeled Tanzania by 4-1 to book a spot in the quarter finals. Badu, who joined the fray in the second half against Tanzania, admits they were disappointed with their start but needed to rise to the occasion in the final group game.

“We were disappointed in our first two games but I think we spoke to ourselves that we needed this win [against Tanzania] more than everyone, even Ghanaians back home we needed this win more and everyone can see we really showed up today.

The 22-year-old was asked about the quarter final game against Algeria and the FK Molde midfielder believes the energy level against the North African side will be adjusted upwards.

“I feel like the energy will be more than this one, now we are in the top eight and we know that a win will take us to the top four so the energy level and everything will be higher than this one [against Tanzania].”

The Black Queens will face Algeria in the quarter finals on Saturday July 19 in Berkane for a place in the semifinals. Ghana are yet to win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and they will set sight on reaching the finals this time.
