Three teams from Group C will take part in the quarterfinals at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after South Africa and Ghana earned decisive victories on Monday in host nation Morocco.
South Africa’s Banyana Banyana looked unconvincing in a surprise 1-1 draw against Tanzania but bounced back with emphasis in a dominant 4-0 victory for the defending champions over Mali.
Tied on four points heading into the clash to determine the Group C winners, goals from Lebogang Ramalepe, Refiloe Jane (video above), Hildah Magaia and Ronnel Donnelly displayed the deadly efficiency Banyana Banyana are capable of on their best day.
Mali dropped from second place to third place after Ghana delivered a clutch performance to defeat Tanzania 4-1.
The Black Queens didn’t look back after Alice Kusi’s second half penalty kick (video above) put Ghana ahead 2-1. Evelyn Badu and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah’s late goals confirmed a crucial victory for Ghana in a match where both teams needed a result to avoid going home. Ghana finish as Group C runners-up following the result and qualify to the quarterfinals (fixtures below).
