Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade has shared her joy following the team’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Botswana in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco on Thursday.
Nigeria triumphed over the Mares to secure a place in the quarterfinals through a Chiwendu Ihezuo goal in the 88th minute of play.
Woman of the Match Ajibade acknowledged that the Mares made it difficult for them during the game and expressed her gratitude for the win.
“Botswana is a strong team, and they demonstrated that in this match. No team should be underestimated in this tournament. Every team is well-managed.”
“They are a very capable and respectable side. It was a challenging game for us. We are thankful for achieving the victory.”
The former Atletico Madrid player also dismissed rumors suggesting that she is playing through an injury, assuring that she is playing at her best.
“I don’t have any injury; I am one hundred percent fit. I am performing to the best of my ability. For me, it is an honor to represent the national team.”
After qualifying for the quarterfinals, the Super Falcons are set to face Algeria in their final Group B match at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Friday, as they are in search for a record extending 10th WAFCON title.
