WAFCON: Tanzania’s Shime promises good football against Ghana

Tanzania women’s national team head coach Bakari Shime says the draw against African champions South Africa has boosted their confidence heading into their last Group C CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) against Ghana at Stade Municipal de Berkane Monday.

The final fixture is important for both teams as they stand a chance to qualify with a win. However, a draw will boost Botswana’s chances of going through to the last eight following their dramatic 2-1 win against Tunisia in a Group B clash at Stade Père Jégo on Sunday.

Shime has now promised good football against Ghana, saying from the way they played against South Africa, the team was on the rise.

“From the way we played our last game against South Africa, it gave us confidence. We want to play in our style. You will see good football against Ghana. We can now execute our style of play,” said Shime as quoted by CAFOnline.

“Tomorrow (Monday), we’ll play the last group game or the last game in the tournament. This is a very, very important game for both teams, especially us. We have one point, and we look forward to getting the three points so that we make it to the next round.

“We know about Ghana, we followed their last two games. We want to walk away with three points. We want to move forward. If we manage to get the three points, then we shall be able to achieve our objective.”

Should Tanzania beat Ghana and qualify, they will become the second nation from the East African region to reach the knockout stage of this continental showpiece after Ethiopia, who reached the semifinals of the eight-team 2004 edition.
