WAFU U-20: Ghana beat ten-man Niger to claim bronze

The Ghana U-20 national team managed to claim bronze over ten-man Niger on home soil following Wednesday’s 2-0 victory at the 2025 WAFU U-20 tournament.

The Black Satellites defeated the Junior Menas by 2-0 in a game that was marred by misunderstanding after the Nigeriens decided to walk off the field following a penalty awarded to Ghana.

Adamou Ibrahim Djibo handled Aziz Musibau’s strike in the penalty area which referee Tuoniféré Soro pointed to the spot in the 56th minute at the Legon Sports Stadium on Wednesday. The decision by the referee to award Ghana the penalty forced the Nigeriens to discontinue the game by walking off the pitch but they returned to the field ten minutes later.

Aziz Musibau stepped up to take the spot kick and he shot the Black Satellites into the lead in the 59th minute. The Black Satellites continued to attack their opponent with Twumasi Opoku hitting the Nigerien post with a thundering header in the 75th minute.

Aziz Musibau increased Ghana’s tally in the 78th minute when winger Kelvin Nkrumah sliced in a beautiful cross from the right side of the field for the Dream FC attacker to tap in coolly.

Niger were reduced to ten men when defender, Bakary Mahamadou was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 95th minute. The Nigeriens came close to finding a consolation but Abdoul-Latif Djibril sent the ball into the hands of Gidios Aseako in post for Ghana. Ivorian referee Tuoniféré Soro ended the game after the minutes were exhausted.
