Wakiso Giants and coach Steven Bengo part ways after relegation blow
Wakiso Giants have confirmed the departure of head coach Steven Bengo following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
In an official statement released on Tuesday morning, the club announced:
“Wakiso Giants FC can confirm that Head Coach Bengo Steven has left his position with immediate effect following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.”
Bengo, who was appointed at the start of the campaign on a three-year contract, had been tasked with leading the Purple Sharks through a competitive Uganda Premier League season. He was joined by former Uganda Cranes midfielder Tony Mawejje as his assistant.
However, things did not go as planned as Wakiso Giants endured a disappointing campaign that ended in relegation to the FUFA Big League. Under Bengo’s stewardship, the club managed just three wins from 30 matches, alongside 11 draws and 16 defeats.
With the exit confirmed, the club is now expected to begin the search for a new coach as preparations for the 2025/26 FUFA Big League season get underway.
