The FA described the reports as unfounded, stressing that there has been no resignation and no change in the technical leadership of the national team.
The statement read in part: “The Royal Moroccan Football Federation categorically denies what has been circulating in some media outlets regarding the resignation of the national team coach Walid Regragui.”
Several news outlets had reported Regragui was being linked to potential offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia. The rumors followed the chaotic 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, which cost Morocco its chance to secure its second trophy in 50 years.
During the final which was marred by chaotic scenes, Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 to secure their second African title. Papa Gueye scored the important goal after Brahim Díaz had missed from the penalty spot.
In the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Regragui led Morocco to the knockout stage for the first time since 1986, and to the quarterfinals after beating Spain on penalties in the Round of 16, making Morocco the fourth African nation and the first Arab nation to qualify for this stage in a World Cup competition.
He became the first African manager, and first Arab manager to reach this stage.
