Wallace Karia is poised to make a return as the president of Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for another term when the general elections are held on August 16.
This is after the TFF Elections Committee confirmed Karia was the sole eligible candidate for the federation’s presidency in the upcoming exercise. The committee’s chairman Kiomoni Kibamba said Karia was the only candidate, who successfully met all the required criteria.
“For the presidential position, there were six candidates. One did not show up for eligibility verification, and four others did not meet the legal requirements. Only one candidate met all the conditions – Wallace Karia,” said Kibamba as quoted by the Guardian.
“The five other individuals who collected nomination forms for the presidency were Richard Shija, Mshindo Msolwa, Ally Mayai, Mustapha Himba, and Ally Thabit Mbingo.”
According to Kibamba, disqualified candidates, who believe they were unfairly treated have the right to file appeals.
“We are an election committee, and as human beings, we may make errors. Anyone who feels aggrieved has right to appeal to the Election Appeals Committee. If any appeal is successful and a name is returned to us, we will proceed accordingly,” he said.
Kibamba further noted that 19 candidates applied for positions on the TFF Executive Committee. Of those, 17 appeared for eligibility verification, and 10 met the necessary requirements and were cleared to advance to the next stage.
The appeal period will run from July 6 to July 8, during which the Appeals Committee will receive, review, and issue rulings on any submitted appeals.
