Ghana was dealt a big blow in women’s football when Nora Hauptle failed to renew her contract to remain as the head coach of the female senior national team.

The Swiss manager’s contract expired on 31st December 2024 after two years of working with the Black Queens. She managed to qualify the Black Queens for the 2025 Women AFCON to be hosted in Morocco in July this year.

Ghanaians were hoping Nora would stay to continue shaping the Black Queens but she decided against renewing her deal and ultimately left to agree a contract with Zambia.

Nora signed a two-year deal with the Copper Queens who will participate at the 2025 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has hinted that the FA has started the process of appointing a new head coach for the Black Queens.

Asante Twum made the assertion in an interview with Ghana-based Asempa FM.

"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has already started the process to appoint a new head coach for the Black Queens after Nora Hauptle's departure," he said.

"We are looking to appoint a competent coach to build on what Nora Hauptle started because we will be participating in the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and so we need to fast-track the appointment so the coach will have a fair idea of the team," he added.

Nora holds a UEFA Pro Licence certificate and has previously worked as an Instructor for the Swiss Football Association.

She played for BSC Young Boys, FFC Zuchwil 05, FC Twente Enschade, FC Thun and the Swiss national team between 1996 and 2010. From 2009 to 2012 she was coach at FC Thun and later worked as a conditioning coach for Tennis player Romina Oprandi.
