Werder Bremen have confirmed the signing of Nigerian forward Victor Boniface on loan from fellow Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

The loan agreement does not include an option to buy, with Bayer Leverkusen still viewing Boniface as a valuable long-term asset.
Werder Bremen’s Head of Professional Football, Clemens Fritz, expressed his delight with the acquisition, stating that the striker is a welcomed addition.
“We are happy that the transfer went through. Victor is a striker who brings with him a great deal of technical ability, speed, and goal-scoring instincts. We are convinced that he will provide us with the extra attacking power we need, and he will contribute immediately to our team’s success.”
The move to the German club comes on the heels of a failed transfer to Italian giants AC Milan. Boniface was on the verge of sealing a move to Milan last week but the Rossoneri pulled out of the deal citing concerns over his fitness.
The striker returned to training last week but was left out of Leverkusen’s matchday squad for last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Bremen.

The Nigerian himself has confirmed that the reason for his transfer falling through was his history of injuries. Milan’s medical staff were concerned about his past knee problems, which included two anterior cruciate ligament surgeries and recurring muscular issues. Despite passing multiple tests, Milan ultimately pulled out of the deal.
Bremen secure more firepower upfront with a proven striker after their disappointing start to the new season. They are yet to record a win in three games across all competitions this term, including a 0-1 upset defeat to second tier side Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB Pokal.
