West Ham United revive pursuit of Nigeria midfielder Raphaël Onyedika

English Premier League side, West Ham United have reportedly reignited their interest in Nigerian midfielder Raphaël Onyedika, as a replacement for Mexican midfielder, Edson Álvarez who is set to leave the club.

According to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, the Hammers have resumed “monitoring the situation” of the 24-year-old Club Brugge player.

Álvarez, a key figure in the midfield since his arrival from Ajax, is set to join Turkish giants Fenerbahçe on a loan deal with an option to buy. His exit leaves a void in the center of the park that West Ham’s new management, led by manager Graham Potter, is keen to fill before the transfer window slams shut.

Onyedika has been a long time target for the London club. Their interest was initially reported earlier this summer, but a move never materialized as West Ham focused on other positions.

Club Brugge had reportedly blocked an exit for the midfielder last summer, sources indicate they are now more open to a sale for a suitable fee. The Belgian club is said to be looking for a transfer fee in the region of €20m, a price tag West Ham is believed to be willing to meet.
