Former Ivory Coast national team attacker Wilfried Zaha is set to move across the Atlantic Ocean and play in the United States' top division Major League Soccer.
According to MLS insider and GiveMeSport's Tom Bogert, the 32-year-old Galatasaray forward will terminate his loan with French Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais to begin a new loan at Charlotte FC in MLS. According to Bogert, Zaha is flying to the North Carolina city on Friday to complete his medical and the necessary paperwork to make the move official.
Bogert and Ben Jacobs report it will be a loan through the 2025 MLS season with Charlotte having the option to extend the loan by six months. The move comes after an unsuccessful spell with Lyon that saw Zaha make only six appearances during the first half of the 2024-25 season. Zaha's last appearance for Lyon was a brief cameo against Angers in an early December Ligue 1 match and his only start came in late September against Toulouse.
Charlotte are preparing for the upcoming MLS Season which runs from February through October. The club is beginning their preseason with the first exhibition match taking place on January 24 against Nashville SC. Zaha will join an attack that also features Israel national team and former Celtic forward Liel Abada as well as Polish national team attacker Karol Åšwiderski.
