Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has addressed speculation regarding the club’s transfer plans, indicating that more new signings could be on the horizon as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
This comes as Amakhosi continue to bolster their squad with a mix of established players and promising young talent.
Nabi has confirmed that the club is looking to add “one or two” more players to their squad as they prepare for a demanding 2025/26 season, which includes participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.
So far, the Soweto giants have brought in six new senior players: Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Flavio Silva, and Siphesihle Ndlovu. In addition to these acquisitions, promising talents from the Diski Challenge – Manqoba Ozoemena, Naledi Hlongwane, Kabelo Nkgwesa, and Thulani Mabaso – have been integrated into the first team and participated in the recent pre-season camp in the Netherlands.
Speaking at a media open day on Friday in Durban, Nabi stressed that the club will not rush into signings just to fill positions. “There are one or two positions that we might strengthen, but we are going to look for the best opportunity in terms of quality,” Nabi stated. “We don’t want to fill the position just to fill it. We will wait as long as it takes to fill one or two positions for the next season.”
Nabi also highlighted the importance of nurturing the club’s young talent. “In addition, we have to give the opportunity this season to the young players who came from the DDC as well as the ones that were promoted last season because we feel that there’s a big potential,” he explained.
He cited Mduduzi Shabalala’s experience as a lesson, noting that while Shabalala showed great promise early on, the burden of responsibility impacted his performance later in the season. “That’s why we want to give them responsibilities, but at the same time, without burning them. We want to do it step by step,” Nabi added.
