Wolayta Dicha confirmed their place in the Ethiopian Cup final after defeating Sheger Ketema 2-0 in Hawassa on Saturday. It will be a back-to-back final for the Bees of Tona as they hope to secure a trophy for the first time since 2018.
Sheger Ketema’s unbelievable run in the knockout cup ended at the semifinal hurdle after a memorable season in the Ethiopian Higher League that saw them promoted to the top flight for the 2025/26 season.
Fast breaks from Southern Ethiopian side Dicha challenged Sheger during the match. Zelalem Abate gave Dicha the lead in the first 45 minutes from close range.
Midfielder Bizuayehu Seife doubled the lead early after the resumption, also from close range. Sheger Ketema’s late efforts were futile as Wolayta Dicha went through to the final.
Head coach Yared Gemechu led Wolayta Dicha to their second Ethiopian Cup final in two seasons in his debut year. Wolayta Dicha will await the winner of Sunday’s second semifinal between Mechal and Sidama Coffee for the Ethiopian Cup final.
