German Bundesliga side, VFL Wolfsburg have bolstered their defence with the signing of Ghana defender Jonas Adjetey in the January transfer window.

Adjetey, 22, signed a four-and-a-half year deal to join the Germans from Swiss giants FC Basel.

The rugged centre-back brings an impressive record to the side having won the League and Cup double last season with the Swiss club.

Jonas Adjetey shared his thoughts on the move to the Bundesliga.

“It means a lot to me to be in the Bundesliga now and to take this step with VfL Wolfsburg. I’m looking forward to getting started right away and will invest everything every day so that we can achieve the results we need together,” he told Wolfsburg’s media outlet.

Wolfsburg Sporting Director Pirmin Schwegler described Jonas Adjetey as a defender with “strong, fast and good tackles.”

“Jonas is a very strong physical player, fast and good in tackles. He brings exactly the qualities we need for our defense,” Schwegler said.

“At FC Basel, he proved himself both in the league and internationally over the past three and a half years. We have high hopes for Jonas and are convinced that he will strengthen our team immediately.”

He made 73 competitive outings for Basel, including six in Europe.

He was a key contributor to Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making seven appearances for the four time African champions.

His presence will be needed when the Black Stars slug it out against Panama, England and Croatia in Group L of the World Cup to be co-hosted by Canada, USA and Mexico.
