World Cup 2026: Ex-forward Yaw Preko cautions Ghana against Chad

Former Ghana international, Yaw Preko has cautioned the senior national team as they resume their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.

The four time African champions will first travel as guests of Chad on Thursday, September 4 at the Stade Olympique Idriss Derby in N’Djamena before returning to the Accra Sports Stadium four days later to host Mali in the group I fixtures.

Preko who once coached Ghana’s FA Cup winners, Nsoatreman believes that the Black Stars must treat the game against Chad with the utmost seriousness.

“We know what is at stake now, and if you look at our performance in our last games, the players should go into the games with that same determination,” Preko, a former Ghana international, told Asempa FM.

“Playing against Chad will not be easy, but then we have to be vigilant and also get the right players for that game because we are playing on an astro turf, but then I strongly believe that we have what it takes to win against Chad,” he added.

The Black Stars currently lead Group I with 15 points after six matches, three points ahead of Comoros and five clear of Madagascar, as they push for a fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.

Otto Addo and his charges will open camp in Accra on Monday, September 1 ahead of the match day 7 and 8 in the qualifiers.
