Head coach of Ghana senior national team, Otto Addo has urged Ghanaians to measure their expectations as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers is still a journey.
The Black Stars will travel to N’Djamena as guests of Chad in match 7 on September 4 before returning to the Accra Sports Stadium to host Mali in fixture number 8 four days later.
The four time African champions leapt into Group I with two consecutive wins against Chad [5-0] in Accra before dispatching Madagascar by 3-0 to go on 15 points, three better than Comoros and five above second qualifying opponent Mali after six matches.
Otto Addo said: “I think the pressure is always there but for me personally I’m supposed to be the coach and we are in a good situation and we have to take it step by step and I think we can’t make mistakes,” Otoo Addo told Max TV.
“A lot of people are talking about the World Cup already but we are not there yet, it’s a long way to go and so we have to take it step by step and the next is to focus on the Chad game and hope that we can win.”
Ghana will be looking to qualify for their fifth World Cup after first appearing in 2006 where they reached round 16. They went a step into the quarter finals in the 2010 edition in South Africa before a group stage exit in Brazil 2014.
Ghana missed out on the 2018 edition in Russia and failed to go past the group stage in Qatar 2022.
