Serhou Guirassy’s time with the Guinea national team for 2026 World Cup qualifying came to a premature end this week after the striker returned to club Borussia Dortmund due to injury.
The Syli National superstar was on the bench for their 2-1 victory at Mozambique on Thursday but did not take part. He remained with the squad for the opening match of the October FIFA window to show support for his teammates.
He has now returned to Dortmund for further examination following the national team’s arrival in Casablanca, Morocco for their final qualifying match against Botswana. Despite the victory on Thursday, the Syli were eliminated from contention to qualify after Uganda’s victory at Botswana on the same day. Algeria secured top spot and qualification with a victory over Somalia in Matchday 9.
The former Stuttgart star has been struggling with minor injuries to his shoulder and thigh. With his national team now eliminated from contention, the 29-year-old will hope to utilize the rest of the international break to recuperate.
Dortmund have a massive Bundesliga match against Bayern Munich next Saturday (October 18) and it remains to be seen if he will recover in time ahead of a busy stretch that includes four matches in ten days from the Bundesliga, the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Pokal.
