Nigeria’s national team head coach Eric Chelle claims his side is focused ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Rwanda on Saturday.
Chelle made this proclamation known while speaking to the press ahead of the crucial home encounter for the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Malian tactician acknowledged the strength of his opponents but assured that his team is fully focused on victory.
“This game is a question of only the Rwanda game, we have a good team, they are a good team. I want my players to only be focused on this game and not about the World Cup qualifiers, we need to win this game. After the game we will see what happens.”
Also, when asked about his game strategy, Chelle explained that he wants his team to dominate and be clinical.
“I need to think about the gameplay of my team and the other team. I want my players to take the game in the first 15 minutes after that we need to be clinical in our box and of course in their box”
Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong said they will do their talking on the pitch.
“I can only speak on behalf of all the players, that everyone who is here is focused 100% on the game tomorrow. There’s been a lot of talk on the importance of the game tomorrow and we know what to do, and now it’s left for us to talk on the pitch tomorrow.”
Following the games that took place on Friday, Nigeria sits in fourth place in Group C with 7 points from six matches. They are trailing group leaders South Africa (16 points) and second-place Benin (11 points), who both won their recent matches, as well as third-place Rwanda (8 points).
