World Cup (Q): Prince Owusu ready for debut Ghana challenge

Medeama SC midfielder Prince Owusu has reacted to his first call up by Ghana national team coach Otto Addo ahead of the last two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Central African Republic and Comoros.

Owusu’s blistering form for the Mauve and Yellow caught the attention of coach Otto Addo, making him one of the two home-based players alongside Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to make the final cut.

Ahead of the last two World Cup qualifying matches, Owusu will hope to earn some minutes under his belt and he has promised to give his all if the opportunity arises.

“I am from Kumasi and I started my career with Kotoko Babies before moving to Koforidua Suhyen and then later moved to Okwahu and Medeama SC came calling. I am an attacking midfielder and thank God, I have been invited to the national team. I thank Ghanaians for this call up and I promise to deliver. I will not disappoint Ghanaians,” he said in a video spotted on Medeama’s social media handles.

Owusu has played all three matches in the Ghana Premier League this season as the Mauve and Yellow won two and lost one.

Ghana will travel to the Stade d’Honneur in Morocco to face the Central African Republic on October 8 before hosting Comoros in Accra four days later. The Black Stars are currently three points clear at the top of Group I and a victory against Central African Republic would clinch their ticket to the finals if Madagascar fail to beat Comoros in Abidjan.

The four-time African champions are chasing a fifth FIFA World Cup qualification after three straight appearances in 2006, 2010 and the 2014 editions in Germany, South Africa and Brazil respectively.
