Despite suffering their fourth defeat in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Zambia national team head coach Avram Grant has stated he is not ready to resign from his role.
The former Chelsea manager had an opportunity to keep alive Zambia’s hopes of qualification against Morocco, but they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The outcome, left a section of Zambian fans calling for his head, but in his response, Grant has insisted the team is making progress under his watch and does not see any reason to resign.
“Why [should I resign?]” Grant asked as quoted by Bola News. “The team played good, the team is making progress. I think the team is much better than I found it.”
“We controlled the game against Morocco, I think we have a good team. We have created a good team and I will continue to do my job as long as I am here. I don’t understand the question.”
The defeat left Zambia fourth in Group E with six points accumulated from two wins, zero draws and four defeats. Morocco, who have already qualified, are placed first with 21 points, while Tanzania are lying second with 10 points. Niger are a place above Zambia with nine points.
