World Cup (Q): Kenya coach McCarthy warns indisciplined players ahead of Seychelles clash

Kenya national team head coach Benni McCarthy has made it clear that he will not tolerate indiscplined players in his squad as they prepare to face Seychelles in a 2025 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday.

“You come to the national team, and if you don’t have that willingness to work hard, I will send you home. There are other players waiting for that opportunity. Those given a chance must make it count,” McCarthy said as quoted by Mozzart Sport.

He added: “A player without discipline will not achieve his goals. Some players have special skill sets, but don’t work towards improving them. Consistency and discipline make the difference.

“If we don’t see hard work and consistency every time you come to the national team, you won’t improve yourself, your teammates, or the team. That brings down the standards, and we don’t need that.”

The South African legend further defended his selection criteria by saying: “Every player selected comes on merit, not just talent. Talent opens the door, but it doesn’t take you far. Hard work is equally important because if you’re not willing to put in the work, your talent goes nowhere.

“You end up being a star in the Kenyan league, but nobody will notice you beyond that.”

After losing 3-1 against Gambia, Kenya will hope to make their fans happy against the Island nation in a Group F contest.
