Libya completed a perfect week in Group D from 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying with Monday evening’s easy 2-0 home victory over Eswatini in Benghazi.
Goals in the opening twenty minutes from Muad Eisa and Ezzedin El Maremi left little doubt about the result as the Aliou Cisse’s squad kept their World Cup hopes alive with two wins in two games from the September FIFA window. The Mediterranean Knights shocked Angola in Luanda earlier in the window.
Eisa opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Eswatini failed to clear a corner kick and the Al Ittihad Tripoli attacker fired in following a goal mouth scramble. El Maremi doubled the advantage a little over ten minutes later with a perfect header that went in off the post from Fadel Mansour’s cross.
Libya are guaranteed to be within reach of the top-two positions following the result. On Tuesday, Cameroon and Cape Verde will clash to determine the leaders of Group D heading into the final stretch in October. Cape Verde currently lead the Indomitable Lions by one point ahead their clash in Praia, Cape Verde.
Libya have a favorable schedule where they can pick up six points in October to make a final push for either top of the group or the runner-up position to possibly qualify for the qualification playoff. They host Cape Verde in the first match of October before finishing up at Mauritius.
