Head coach of Mali, Tom Saintfiet is bent on causing an upset against Ghana in order to brighten their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by Canada, USA and Mexico.
The Eagles will slug it out with Ghana in match day 8 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday September 8. Mali are riding on a confident 3-0 win over Comoros in match day 7 and will hope to repeat the dose.
Tom Saintfiet said: “We are here [in Ghana] to make a miracle come true, we are here to play with confidence and to try to surprise the 40,000 fans in the stadium and supporting their team,” Tom Saintfiet told the media.
“We know it’s tough because we missed a lot of players, Yves Bissouma is not available, El Bilal Toure and a few others who are missing but we played our last game against Comoros without these guys.
“A good game, 3-0 against Comoros, good results and it gives us confidence and all the players who played against Comoros so we are ready for the task.”
Mali are fourth in the standings on 12 points, one behind Madagascar, three away from Comoros and four adrift of Ghana. A win takes them to 15 points and they will hope other countries drop valuable points on match day 8.
