Namibia star Alfeus Leevi has given a positive update on his injury going into Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe.
The attacking midfielder told Footy Namibia that he was now back on his feet and hopes to be available for the Group H match.
“I’m sure it’s not serious, but I’ll keep working with my physio,” the Blue Waters FC player.
“It was just a small knock. For me as a player, it’s a big blow. We had a four-week preparation back at home and when we came here, my first training session, I’m out, it was something hurting, I had to go in my room and think about it. I really tried everything I could, but it was like pain. Now I’m recovering and by Tuesday hopefully I’ll be back.”
On another note, Leevi further reflected on Namibia’s 1- 2 loss to Malawi in Botswana on Friday.
“Let me say it was the easiest match of this tournament so far,” the 24-year-old added.
“We kept the ball, took position, and wasted the chances. It’s part of football, chances come, you waste, you get another one, you waste. The other team got their chances, they capitalised and got punished. I look forward to the next match. I’m sure we’re going to get three points.”
Namibia succumbed to goals from Richard Mbulu and Gabadinho Mhango in either half for Malawi.
Substitute David Ndeunyema scored the face-saver for Collin Benjamin’s men to remain seven points behind leaders Tunisia. The Brave Warriors now hope to bounce back against bottom-placed São Tomé and Príncipe on Tuesday.
