South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) all-time great Peter Shalulile and his Namibia football team mates are smiling all the way to the bank.
The Mamelodi Sundowns star has been rewarded after scoring a stunning hat-trick for Namibia when they cruised past São Tomé and Principe with a 3-0 victory in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Shalulile stole the show during the qualifying match for Group H at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana, on September 9, 2025.
The forward’s feat capped a successful month that saw him stand head and shoulders above the rest by becoming the PSL’s all-time leading scorer with 130 goals.
He scored for Sundowns as they beat Stellenbosch FC 1-0 on August 30, 2025 to surpass Kaizer Chiefs’ legend Siyabonga Nomvethe’s previous PSL record of 129 goals.
The former Highlands Park FC man took his form to the national team helping them bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Malawi to beat Principe. Such a performance did not escape the attention of the Namibian football authorities.
Little wonder, in a statement, the Namibia Football Association (NFA) confirmed that the Warriors have been rewarded handsomely.
Specifically, it is the Brave Warriors’ World Cup Campaign Committee that has paid winning bonuses amounting to 450,000 Namibian dollars (N$). The money has gone to the 24-member playing squad for the Namibia game against Principe.
“Every of the 24 players received an amount of N$ 15,000 [US$864] while the 9-member technical team each received N$10,000 [US$577]. A total of N$450,000 [US$26,000]was therefore paid in winning bonuses,” the statement reads.
Additionally, players who did not make the playing squad have received N$1,000 each in addition to the similar amount they pocket from NFA.
The money should motivate Namibia who are bidding for a World Cup qualification via continental play-off going into next month’s matches against Liberia and group leaders Tunisia.
