Three points separated the hosts from their opponents heading into the game. Uganda were better in the first half but failed to penetrate a resilient Mozambique defense led by Reinildo Mandava. Allan Okello was the danger man as he tested the away side with two well-taken free kicks. The visitors were limited to a few counterattacks and failed to make meaningful attempts on goal.
Moments after the resumption, Uganda broke the deadlock through star player Okello, who scored a beautiful goal from distance. Rogers Mato was in red-hot form as he bagged a brace in the space of 14 minutes to down Mozambique. Center back Elio Capradossi finished Mozambique off with a header in the dying moments of the match.
