Zimbabwe have described their 2026 FIFA World Cup showdown against South Africa as more than a match.
The Warriors face South Africa on Friday, followed by a meeting with Lesotho on Monday. Both matches are for Group C. Michael Nees’ men stand no chance of qualifying for the World Cup finals, but they are out to play for pride. Zimbabwe hope to atone for back-to-back loses to leaders Benin and Rwanda last month.
Now, having regrouped on Monday in South Africa, the Warriors have spoken of the importance of finishing the qualifiers on a high.

A statement on Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Facebook page says the Warriors are in full camp, united, focused and ready for battle against Bafana Bafana.
“Morale is high, spirits are strong, and the team is determined to deliver a performance that restores pride and signals Zimbabwe’s football renaissance,” the statement reads.
ZIFA has since quoted a senior player saying: “This is more than a match. It is about showing Africa that Zimbabwe is on the rise.”
Zimbabwe have called up stars such as former Kaizer Chiefs stars and now Scottland FC team-mates, Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat, Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Marshall Munetsi and England-based skipper Marvelous Nakamba from Luton FC.
There is a fair share of players from South Africa, including first-choice veteran goalkeeper Washington Arubi of Marumo Gallants and Mamelodi Sundowns’ resurgent left-back Divine Lunga and Magesi FC’s Elvis Chipezeze.
