Eswatini coach Zdravko Logarusic gave a strange explanation for his team’s 3-0 loss to Cameroon in the World Cup qualifiers on Thursday.
The coach addressed press after the heavy defeat, as the Indomitable Lions avenged for the away goalless draw that tasted like a defeat against Eswatini in the first-leg of Group D.
This time around, Cameroon, led by the likes of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, got the job done thoroughly at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.
In a post-match interview, Logarusic justified the loss, saying his side only comprised one professional footballer.
In a video shared on Facebook by Voice of the People News, the Croatian claimed that the rest of his squad consists of part-time players.
“We have one professional player and the rest of them are policemen, teachers and soldiers and they play part-time,” he said. “I think in the second half, they played correctly and three goals conceded it was just out of a mistake.”
Gift Gamedze’s own goals and two strikes from Georges-Kevin N’koudou and Arthur Avom sealed the maximum points for Cameroon.
The Indomitable Lions sit one point behind group leaders Cape Verde who defeated Mauritania 2-0 in an earlier game played on Thursday.
Eswatini anchor the six-member group with two points from seven games and the remaining fixtures are for academic purposes.
Eswatini will now switch attention to their next assignment against Libya on September 8 while Cameroon face tricky Cape Verde on September 9.
