World Cup Qualifying: Gambia reward Yankuba Minteh for destroying Kenya

Gambia national team winger Yankuba Minteh has been rewarded for his show of might to demolish Kenya in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture at Kasarani Stadium on Friday.

The Brighton & Hove Albion winger single handedly ended Harambee Stars’ slim chances to qualify for their first-ever World Cup after he orchestrated a 3-1 Group F victory to stun the home side and silence the sold-out crowd.

Minteh set up Sheriff Sinyan to open the scoring, grabbed the second from a beautiful finish and set up Musa Barrow for the third. The Gambia Football Federation confirmed in a statement that Minteh was named Man of the Match after the game.

Statement:

Yankuba Minteh gave a Man of the Match performance yesterday as the Scorpions stung the Harambee 3-1 in Nairobi.

Coming at the back of his man of the match performance against Manchester City in the English premier league, the Brighton forward assisted and scored at the Moi International Stadium and was a nightmare for the Kenyans, terrorizing their defense for 80 minutes. It’s now back to back man of the match performances for the 21-year-old Bakoteh born nimble-footed winger.

Yankuba was handed his award by Scorpions gaffer Johnathan McKinstry at the end of today’s training session, in the presence of his teammates. Sponsored by our electronics partner, Unique Group, the youngster was handed an award, a massage gun, power bank, wireless EarPod and a smart watch.

Minteh will hope to be in fine form again as Gambia face Burundi in their next fixture at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday.
