The Uganda Cranes continued their push up the Group G table, moving back into second place with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Somalia in Kampala. Allan Okello’s penalty left the hosts up inside six minutes as they faced little resistance from an overwhelmed Somalian side.

Jude Ssemugabi followed up to finish from close range in the 39th minute to double Uganda’s lead and effectively put the hosts out of reach. A subdued second half followed as Uganda held on without any issues.
In Casablanca, a must-win match for Guinea ended in disappointment as Group G leaders Algeria held the Syli National to a 0-0 draw. Both teams had excellent opportunities but strong goalkeeping performances from Guinea keeper Moussa Camara and his counterpart Alexis Guendouz kept the match scoreless.
Algeria remain four points clear at the top of the table while Guinea’s World Cup hopes are fading rapidly. Serhou Guirassy and his teammates must now win their final two matches, an away clash at Mozambique followed by a home match against Botswana, and receive help elsewhere to finish second in the group and qualify for the qualification playoff.
Mozambique, winners earlier on Monday, have the more favorable schedule when the qualifying games wrap up next month but Uganda have plenty of momentum, setting up a dramatic conclusion to the group in early October. The two contenders each have fifteen points following Monday’s results.
