Wydad Casablanca were beaten by Spanish La Laga club Sevilla (0-1) on Tuesday evening in a friendly match played at the Stade Mohammed V, as part of their preparation for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
In front of a packed crowd, Mohamed Amine Benhachem's men displayed strong attacking intent in the first half, but were unable to capitalize on their chances. The Sevillians, meanwhile, primarily tried to exploit the right flank but were unsuccessful against a well-positioned defense.
After the break, it was the Andalusian team that finally opened the scoring thanks to substitute Gerard Fernández Castellano, who scored the only goal of the match in the 50th minute, taking advantage of a slight lapse in the Casablancan defense.
Wydad then responded with higher pressure and greater attacking intensity, led in particular by Jamal Harkass, but their final passes and finishing were lacking enough to equalize.
Despite the defeat, this friendly match was part of a warm-up for the Reds with less than a month before the start of the Club World Cup (June 14 – July 13) in the United States, where WAC will represent Morocco and Africa.
The Casablanca club is in the formidable Group G, alongside Manchester City, Juventus Turin, and Al-Ain FC. A tough group that promises some serious battles.
